Top 10 things to do in Dubrovnik for First-Time Travelers !
If you’ve finally booked your trip to Dubrovnik or even if you’re just daydreaming on Pinterest right now, let me just say: get ready to fall in love. Because going to the “Pearl of the Adriatic” will eventually drop you into the sea of magic where you will find love, positivity and peace everywhere, but if you are visiting in crowded seasons you might feel little chaos outside, but one thing I can bet that you will find peace inside.
You don’t believe me?
Then, talk to me after your trip.
I mean, where else can you walk along medieval walls in the morning, swim in the Adriatic by lunch and end the night with a sunset view that looks like it was designed for a romance movie.
Dubrovnik is all about moments you’ll never forget.
So, if it’s your first time visiting Dubrovnik, here’s my ultimate list of 10 things that you cannot miss.
1. Walk the famous city walls:
This is the ultimate Dubrovnik classic.
The walls wrap around the Old Town and walking the full 2 kilometers feels like stepping into pure history. You’ll see red rooftops stretching out against the endless blue sea which is a total postcard moment.
- Tip: Try to go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds.
2. Take the Cable Car to Mount Srđ:
Want a view that actually makes you gasp?
Head up Mount Srđ by cable car. At the top, you’ll see Dubrovnik laid out like a storybook city with the islands dotting the sea in the background. This is my most favourite thing in Dubrovnik.
- Tip: Time it for sunset….because golden light + sea breeze feels like magic.
3. Chill at Banje Beach !
It’s popular and yes, it can get crowded. You're literally swimming with the Old Town as your backdrop and open wide sea in the front.
- Tip: Bring water shoes because the beaches are pebbly and rent a sunbed if you want the full beach vibe.
4. Explore Lokrum Island:
A quick 15 minute ferry ride from the Old Port, Lokrum feels like a little escape. There are shady pine forests, hidden swimming spots and even peacocks wandering around like they own the place.
- Must-do: Swim in the Dead Sea which is a small natural saltwater lake tucked inside the island.

5. Get Lost in Old Town !
The Old Town is a maze of cobblestones, arches and tiny stairways. Behind every corner there’s something charming like a cute café with outdoor tables, a boutique shop or a sleepy cat soaking up the sun.
- Tip: Grab a gelato and let your feet lead the way.
6. Visit Fort Lovrijenac (aka King’s Landing) !
Fort Lovrijenac has a serious wow factor. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll recognize it instantly as King’s Landing. But even if you’re not, the views from the fortress are unreal.
It’s a request from a fan of GOT, please go and visit the fort,
YOU WILL THANK ME.
7. Try the Local Food:
If you’re into seafood, Dubrovnik is heaven. Black risotto which is made with cuttlefish ink is a must and by the way you can also try octopus salad with local Croatian wine, it's best.
Bonus: Try eating at a Konoba (traditional tavern) for a more local and cozy experience.
8. Take a day trip!
One of the coolest things about Dubrovnik is how close it is to other amazing spots.
- Montenegro: Visit Kotor and Budva because both are the dreamy coastal towns that you see on Instagram.
- Bosnia & Herzegovina: Don’t miss Mostar with its iconic bridge and the Kravice waterfalls because these are one of the beautiful places in Dubrovnik.
- Elaphiti Islands: If you want a slow trip, then this place is perfect for slow travel vibes and quiet beaches.
See, travelling and thinking about the transport, stay and food which is safe and dreamy is very stressful. That’s why many tourists including me book with Garitransfer.
They handle everything, so we just sit back and
enjoy the beautiful views with tasty local food and drinks.
9. Go Kayaking Around the City Walls !
Kayaking is a must for all the adventurous people.
Imagine paddling along the Adriatic while looking up at the massive city walls. Oh my god this would be the best experience of life. Only after this you will get a totally different perspective of Dubrovnik which is very pure and quiet.
- Tip: Evening tours are the best because the sea is calmer and the sunset is unbeatable.
10. Watch the Sunset From the Old Port !
Simple, free and absolutely unforgettable.
Sit near the water with a glass of wine, watch the boats move and soak up all the golden glow on the stone walls.
It’s one of those “I can’t believe I’m really here” moments.
Dubrovnik is one of those cities that feels like a dream but it’s real. Between the sea, the sunsets and the centuries of history.
It's the kind of trip that stays with you forever.
So if it’s your first visit, take it slow and
Let yourself enjoy the magic.
